My Word - It's Halloween!

Halloween is certainly becoming more of a "thing" in Switzerland than it was when we first moved here. It still doesn't even begin to compete with some of the decorating and events in the United States though. My own tradition is to enter Susannah Hill's annual Halloweensie contest. The guidelines for the 11th annual edition were to write a 100 word Halloween story appropriate for children using the words glow-in-the-dark, goosebumps, and goodies. This is my entry. You can also read it and the other entries on her blog.

My Word - It’s Halloween!

“All this gabbing about goodies, ghosts, and glow-in-the-dark ghouls is great; it’s even giving me goosebumps. But,” bellowed Beatrice, “what about broomsticks, bogeymen, and bats in the belfry?”

“Not to mention haunted houses, headless horsemen, and hobgoblins,” howled Haley.

Instantly there arose a clatter of chatter the likes of which those walls had never heard. “We all want weird words,” wailed the class.

“Now, now,” smiled Ms. Atoz. “I believe there’s something for all twenty-six of you today.”

Sure enough, by the end of the day, everyone from Abigail (apparition) to Zelda (zombies) had found a special Halloween word.
